Monday, April 6, 2020, marked Brody’s official induction into the Bristol Police Department, Rhode Island. The swearing-in ceremony, a significant rite of passage, is a momentous occasion for any community member stepping into a new role. However, Brody had his priorities straight – sleep!
As the ceremony unfolded, Brody snoozed peacefully on the desk, blissfully unaware of the eloquent words spoken by Police Chief Kevin Lynch. Officer Keith Medeiros played the role of Brody’s stand-in while the little pup recharged his batteries.
The viral video, streamed live on the Bristol Police Department’s Facebook page, captured the hearts of viewers worldwide. Chief Lynch, undeterred by Brody’s siesta, expressed optimism about the puppy’s future impact on the town. Brody isn’t just any police pup; he holds the esteemed position of the first Comfort and Therapy dog in the Bristol Police Department. Donated by Boonefield Labradors, Brody’s name pays homage to the town (the ‘B’) and Rhode Island (‘Rody’). Initially considered for bomb-sniffing duties, Brody found his true calling as a therapy dog, aiming to bridge the gap between the community and the police.
Officer Medeiros shared, “People are really stressed, especially in law enforcement. Just by walking in the police department with Brody, people immediately smile.” In a time dominated by the challenges of COVID-19, Brody’s presence brings joy and comfort, proving that sometimes, a wagging tail and a furry friend are all it takes to brighten someone’s day.
