In a small town near Wamego, Kansas, an abandoned puppy’s luck took a U-turn on a bustling highway last Saturday. The heroes of this tail-wagging story? The compassionate crew of Coleman Electric workers on their way to Manhattan!

As they cruised down the highway, something caught their eye – a furry friend in the back of a car hauler. Quick-thinking Matt Mcmillan and Steve McLean sprang into action, rallying other drivers to help flag down the double-decker car hauler. With determination, they brought the vehicle to a halt and rescued the adorable passenger – a 4-month-old retriever lab mix now known as Karmel.

Taking her under their wing, Mcmillan brought Karmel to their job site, providing the care and love she needed. “Once we found her, she’s the sweetest canine, so she just lays there by your feet,” Mcmillan shared. “The previous 2 days she pretty much just slept, so I think she needed to catch up and get some strength back.”

For Mcmillan, who had recently experienced the loss of his own furry companion, Karmel became more than just a rescue. She became family.

Intrigued to uncover Karmel’s past, Mcmillan took her for a chip scan on Tuesday. The trail led them to her initial owners, but shockingly, they declined to take her back. It turns out Karmel had originally found a home through a Manhattan shelter.
